John was born and raised in Lewistown Pennsylvania. He is of counsel to the law firm of Halbruner, Hatch & Guise, LLP, whose offices are located 2109 Market Street, Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. Mr. McCullough’s practice areas include family law matters such as divorce, child custody, support and adoption areas, civil litigation, and criminal defense.
Mr. McCullough attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where he was actively involved in their theater program. In 1997, he graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts in Theater and a minor in English.
After graduation, Mr. McCullough attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During law school, Mr. McCullough interned for three years with the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General Drug Strike Force located in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Mr. McCullough attained his law degree in 2000.
After graduation, Mr. McCullough returned home to Lewistown, where he joined the law firm of Stephen S. Snook. In addition, Mr. McCullough became the coordinator for the Mifflin County Drug Task Force, a position which he held until 2002.
In 2002, Mr. McCullough accepted a position as judicial law clerk for the Honorable Timothy S. Searer, President Judge of Mifflin County. During this period, Mr. McCullough assisted the court with legal research and writing obligations in a wide range of areas, including family law and civil and criminal litigation.
In 2004, Mr. McCullough entered private practice, joining the law firm of Walz, Walz, Scarigni & Scaringi in Newport, Pennsylvania. While there, he focused his private practice on family law and criminal defense matters.
In 2006, Mr. McCullough accepted a position as part-time public defender in Mifflin County. Mr. McCullough was responsible for case management and representation for more than 300 criminal cases per year, and represented clients in cases ranging from summary offenses to felonies, including drug felonies, assault cases, and sexual assault cases.
Mr. McCullough also opened his own private practice, the Law Offices of John H. McCullough, P.C. Mr. McCullough’s private practice areas continued to expand, now including a wide variety of litigation matters, as well as representation of municipal clients and corporate clients.
Mr. McCullough chose to step down as public defender in 2013 to focus more fully on his private practice. He joined the law firm of Halbruner, Hatch & Guise shortly after its formation in October, 2013.
Mr. McCullough was admitted to practice before the Pennsylvania Bar in 2001, and to the Federal Bar for the Middle District of Pennsylvania in 2005. He has represented clients across the mid-state area before magisterial district judges, courts of common pleas, and has successfully argued cases before the Pennsylvania Superior Court. Mr. McCullough is also a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Mifflin County Bar Association.
